Attract People with $100,000+ IRAs When You Know
How
Plenty of people have $100,000+ IRAs and they could be your clients.
Many of them are do-it-yourselfers with accounts at discount brokers
or with other advisors. And most of them don't realize how little
they know about the distribution phase of their IRA and how they can
really screw it up.
You can use that message to fill a seminar room with affluent IRA
owners. Most IRA owners have no idea about selecting beneficiaries
and why they should never name their trust. They don't understand
that, because an estate has no life, if they name their IRA beneficiary
as their estate, their beneficiaries must pay tax on the entire IRA
right away (and cannot spread out the payments of their own lifetimes).
And they don't understand how to avoid estate taxes on an IRA if
they have a large estate. Few people realize that, when a life insurance
policy is used inside a qualified plan, there is a huge income tax
and estate tax reduction that can be as large as 50%. (Most IRA owners
can roll over their IRA into a qualified plan).
And they don't know how to insure that their beneficiaries use the
powerful stretch IRA concept. Most people want to design their IRAs
to last through the lifetime of the next generation, but the parents
are not providing the right set of instructions to make this happen.
And they have heard about the Roth IRA and have never had the benefit
explained well OR have had the benefit oversold to them. And they
don't know how to convert to a roth without the upfront conversion
tax cost.
Or they have the wrong investments in their IRA to minimize their
lifetime taxes, but they don't know it and their accountant has never
even thought to look.
